because it's lunchtime.

interpret this, please.

I had a dream last night, in which the President and First Lady came to my parents house and my dad served them the entire contents of a pot of coffee that I had brewed for myself. And I was annoyed mostly because I didn't get any coffee and my dad? He is a kind and generous soul who gave all my coffee to a republican that we didn't vote for.

I think it means something, but I'm not sure exactly what.

and it tastes good.

I have no New Year's resolutions this year.

The beginning of a new year is a big thing for the Japanese, of which I happen to be one. Lots of eating of lucky things (lucky soup, lucky beans), and lucky rituals of visiting and gift giving and remembering the dead. But the New Year rolled around, and I just didn't feel very lucky. Or very up to making any promises to myself.

But at dinner last night, my friend said something to me about the world and oysters, and I woke up this morning for the first time in a while to a world looking very full of possibilities.

"You got any resolutions?"
"No, but I do have a new motto."
"Okay, let's hear it."
"I announce: the world, it is my oyster."
"Isn't that Shakespeare or something?"
"Wilde, too. Yes, and it's going to be a wonderful year. You know why?"
"The world is your oyster?"
"Exactly."
